Mic-Like Mandolin Warmth Without Putting a Microphone on Stage
The Baggs Radius is a passive contact sensor designed to capture the fast transient detail and upper harmonics of a mandolin without relying on a conventional bridge pickup. Its free-floating film sensor works like a microphone diaphragm, with opposing neodymium magnets suspending and damping the sensor so it can respond to subtle movement from the instrument top.
That design gives you a warm, natural response while avoiding the practical feedback problems of placing a microphone in front of the mandolin on a loud stage. The Radius mounts externally with removable adhesive, so there is no need to replace the bridge or permanently modify the instrument.
The passive system has no controls or power requirements and needs an external preamp. It includes the Radius pickup and output jack, clamp adjustment tool, extra adhesives and mounting putty. Professional installation is required. The Radius is designed for mandolin and is not recommended for octave mandolin.
