Wooden Claves & Latin Percussion
Is clave a shaking instrument?
Coming from the Spanish word for “key” and “code”, the clave (pronounced klah-veh) is a percussion instrument crucial for providing foundational rhythmic sounds. It’s particularly essential in certain music styles, like Latin American and Afro-Cuban, for the bright and sharp sound with consistent tone and precise timing also useful in classrooms and drum circles. Striking the two short wooden sticks in the set, the striker and the clave, produces a 2-3 or 3-2 rhythm pattern known as the “clave” that serves as the metronome for the musical ensemble.
At Riffs and Licks Music, we have a handpicked selection of claves, chosen for the solid construction made from quality hardwoods and the consistent tonal quality. As they require no setting up, they’re great for percussionists of any level. Whether you prefer the classic option, like the Meinl design, or something more exotic with a cut-away sound chamber to get more sound variety, you’re sure to find it among our range. We also have a versatile pack with other percussion instruments, like shakers and foot tambourine, suitable for most of your performance needs at the studio or an event, regardless of skill level.
