Bell Brass Construction with Precise, Service-Friendly Snare Control
The Tama PBB146 Starphonic is a 14" × 6" snare drum built around a 3 mm (0.12") Bell Brass shell. Its Grooved Hoops work with Freedom Lugs and quick-release claw hooks, allowing the hooks to tilt away once the tension rods are loosened so you can change heads without completely removing every tension rod.
The Linear-Drive strainer is designed for smooth, controlled engagement of the snare wires, avoiding the abrupt slap that can occur when wires hit the resonant head too quickly. A ratchet-style tension adjuster provides fine snare-wire control, with each click moving the wires by just 0.083 mm (0.0033"). The detachable butt plate also lets you remove the snare wires during a head change while preserving their previous tension setting.
Tama's 20-strand Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon snare wires sit closely against the snare-side head for greater sensitivity and a brighter, crisper response. Rubber blocks inside the claw hooks help prevent tension bolts loosening during playing.
At Riffs & Licks Music, we think this snare drum suits drummers who want Bell Brass construction with unusually precise snare adjustment and practical hardware designed to simplify head changes and maintenance.
