Deep Low-End Conga Voice with Warm Resonance
Meinl Marathon Classic Series 12 1/2 inch Tumba is designed to produce the deeper voice within a traditional conga setup. The larger diameter allows the drum to generate fuller low frequencies and broader resonance, creating the foundation tones that anchor many Latin and world percussion patterns. The two-ply Siam Oak shell contributes warmth and sustain while keeping the response defined enough for clear open tones and controlled bass strokes.
The True Skin buffalo head provides a natural playing surface that responds clearly to hand technique. Softer strokes produce rich, resonant tones, while stronger accents deliver deep, focused lows with clear articulation. The 2.6 millimetre rounded SSR rim offers a comfortable edge for the hands, and the eight millimetre tuning lugs allow precise tension adjustments to shape the drum’s tone and projection.
Meinl’s Steely-II stand system features an L-shaped leg design with metal spike attachments for improved stability during performance. Ergonomic rubber bracing helps isolate the drum from floor vibration, while height adjustment notches allow quick setup changes to suit different playing positions.
At Riffs & Licks Music, we think the Meinl Marathon Classic Series 12 1/2 inch Tumba suits percussionists who want a deep, resonant conga voice to anchor a conga set, providing strong low-end support for ensemble rhythms and stage performance.
