A Round-Shoulder Workhorse Built for Warmth, Punch and Dynamic Playing

The Gibson J-45 Standard HiFi DNA in Vintage Sunburst has the kind of voice that explains its long-standing “Workhorse” reputation. Its round-shoulder dreadnought body, solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides produce warm mids, tight punchy bass and strong projection without losing balance across the strings. Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing lets the top respond dynamically, so lighter picking retains detail while a firmer strum brings out the guitar’s fuller side.

Moving along the mahogany neck, the SlimTaper profile keeps the feel relatively streamlined, while the 628.65 mm (24.75") scale gives the strings a slightly softer feel than a 647.7 mm (25.5") scale. The 304.8 mm (12") rosewood fingerboard carries 20 standard frets and understated mother-of-pearl dot inlays. A black TUSQ nut, traditional rosewood belly-up bridge, TUSQ saddle and bridge pins, Grover Rotomatic tuners and teardrop pickguard round out the hardware.

For amplified work, the Baggs HiFi DNA system takes a different approach from a conventional under-saddle pickup. Two lightweight sensors mounted to the bridge plate respond to both string energy and movement of the soundboard, with each sensor feeding its own custom-voiced Class A preamp before the signals are blended. That helps retain warmth, body resonance and the difference between a light touch and harder strumming on stage. Volume and tone controls sit discreetly inside the soundhole.
