Left-Handed J-45 Warmth with a Bold Goldtop Presentation

The Gibson J-45 Standard HiFi DNA Left-Handed in Goldtop takes the familiar character of Gibson’s round-shoulder dreadnought and gives it a much less traditional visual treatment. Beneath the Goldtop gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides are supported by traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing. The result is a full, balanced acoustic voice with warm mids, tight bass and enough projection to carry strummed accompaniment without losing definition.

Its 628.65 mm (24.75") scale contributes to a slightly softer string feel than a 647.7 mm (25.5") scale, while the SlimTaper mahogany neck keeps the profile relatively lean through the hand. The rosewood fingerboard uses a 304.8 mm (12") radius with 20 standard frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The guitar is fitted with a black TUSQ nut, TUSQ saddle and bridge pins, a traditional rosewood belly-up bridge, and Grover Rotomatic tuners with kidney buttons.

On stage, the Baggs HiFi DNA system is intended to preserve more of what you hear acoustically rather than reducing the guitar to string vibration alone. Two lightweight sensors attached to the bridge plate respond to both the strings and movement of the soundboard, with separate custom-voiced Class A preamps handling each sensor before their signals are blended. That gives changes in picking strength and strumming dynamics more room to come through amplified. Volume and tone controls sit inside the soundhole.

At Riffs & Licks Music, we think this left-handed J-45 is a great option for players who already like the model’s warm, direct voice but want something visually removed from the usual sunburst aesthetic.
