Fender Player II Mustang Bass PJ Short-Scale MN Cactus Gray

Short-Scale Bass Comfort with Practical PJ Pickup Range

The Fender Player II Mustang Bass PJ Short-Scale MN Cactus Gray is a 762 mm (30”) scale electric bass made for players who want easier fretting, a slinkier string feel and plenty of usable pickup range. The alder body gives the bass a balanced foundation, while the Player Series Alnico 5 split Precision Bass pickup and Jazz Bass bridge pickup cover everything from thicker low-mid punch to sharper bridge definition.

The short-scale length is the big playability difference here. Compared with a 864 mm (34”) long-scale bass, the 762 mm (30”) scale makes the frets feel closer together (because they are), which helps with quick position shifts, smaller hand stretches and longer sets where a full-scale bass can feel like more work.

The Modern C maple neck, satin urethane back finish and 38.1 mm (1.5”) nut width keep the bass feeling quick without being cramped. The maple fingerboard adds a snappier attack under the fingers, while the 241 mm (9.5”) radius and 19 medium jumbo frets give you a comfortable surface for clean fretting, slides and simple, solid basslines.

At Riffs & Licks Music, we think this Mustang Bass PJ is best for players who want short-scale comfort with the extra flexibility of P/J pickups, giving them a bass that feels easy to play but still covers punchy rock, pop, indie and everyday gigging tones.
