Modern Flying V Performance with a Tighter 25.5" Scale and Three-Voice Fluence Pickups
The Epiphone Prophecy Flying V in Obsidian Storm Satin is built around the demands of modern high-gain playing. Its mahogany body is topped with a highly flamed maple veneer, while the thermally aged one-piece maple neck uses a 647.7 mm (25.5") scale to increase string tension and help keep lower tunings feeling tighter and more defined.
The HyperGlide neck profile is reinforced with graphite rods and paired with a bound ebony fingerboard. A 254–355.6 mm (10"–14") compound radius keeps the lower register comfortable for chords before flattening out for bends and faster work higher up the neck. Twenty-four stainless-steel frets provide a smooth, durable playing surface, while black mother-of-pearl block inlays complement the darker Obsidian Storm presentation.
A pair of custom-voiced Fishman Fluence humbuckers gives the Prophecy much more range than a conventional two-pickup V. The electronics provide three distinct voices: a high-output modern active humbucker sound, a vintage PAF-inspired humbucker voice and a clearer single-coil-inspired setting. Push/pull functionality on the master volume and tone controls provides access to these alternate voices, with a three-way toggle handling pickup selection.
The hardware is similarly performance-focused, with Grover Locking Rotomatic tuners, a GraphTech nut and LockTone Modern Tune-O-Matic bridge. A through-body Frequensator-influenced tailpiece is designed to balance string tension while supporting sustain and expressive bending, and Posi-Lok strap buttons add extra security when playing the V standing up.
At Riffs & Licks Music, we think the Prophecy Flying V is an excellent match for players working with heavy gain, lower tunings and technical playing styles who still want access to more traditional humbucker and cleaner single-coil-inspired sounds. The longer scale, stainless-steel frets and multi-voice Fluence electronics give it a distinctly modern playing platform. A Protector Ultralite case is included.
