1960 Les Paul Special Character with USA P-90s and a Leaner Double-Cut Feel

The Epiphone Inspired by Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cut Reissue in Cherry Red recreates the version of the Special that emerged after Gibson moved the model to a double-cutaway body in the late 1950s. By 1960, the design had gained a slimmer neck profile and revised neck-pickup placement, giving players easier access across the fretboard while retaining the stripped-back mahogany construction that made the Special so direct and responsive.

A slab mahogany body is joined to a one-piece mahogany set neck with a 60s SlimTaper profile. The bound rosewood fingerboard carries 22 Medium Jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays, while the 304.8 mm (12") radius gives chord work and string bending plenty of room. At the headstock, Epiphone Deluxe three-on-a-plate tuners and a Graph Tech nut handle tuning duties.

The real draw is the pair of Gibson Custom USA P-90 Soapbar pickups. Each pickup gets its own volume and tone control, with CTS potentiometers and Bumblebee paper-in-oil capacitors, while a three-way Switchcraft selector handles pickup changes.

A historic-style wraparound bridge with intonation adjustment screws keeps the hardware simple while providing individual compensation options missing from a basic uncompensated wraparound design. The Cherry Red Vintage Gloss finish, black five-ply pickguard and Gibson Open Book-style headstock complete the period-inspired presentation.
