A Golden Tribute to Earl Scruggs and the Banjo That Helped Define His Sound

The Epiphone Earl Scruggs Golden Deluxe is inspired by the rare Gibson RB-Granada Mastertone that served as Scruggs’ primary banjo from 1949 until his passing in 2012. Scruggs’ three-finger picking approach became so closely associated with bluegrass that it came to be known simply as “Scruggs style”, and this five-string model draws directly from the ornate instrument that accompanied much of that legacy.

The closed-back resonator construction uses a three-ply maple rim and three-ply maple resonator with figured maple veneer, giving the banjo a traditional resonator format with a particularly elaborate presentation. Gold hardware runs throughout, including a gold-plated armrest with Earl Scruggs-inspired engraving, while the gloss finish, single-ply binding and Gibson-style double-cut scroll headstock reinforce the Golden Deluxe aesthetic.

A figured maple C-profile neck is paired with an ebony fingerboard, 22 Narrow/Medium frets and mother-of-pearl Hearts and Flowers inlays with a Mastertone Block. The 670.56 mm (26.4") scale and 30 mm (1.18") bone nut retain familiar five-string banjo proportions, while dual coordinator rods provide the neck and rim connection.
