Classic 81/85 Active Tone with EMG’s Original 1976-Style Logo

The EMG 81 / 85 50th Anniversary Set brings together two of EMG’s best-known active humbuckers in a limited 2026 release featuring the original EMG logo. Traditionally, the 81 sits in the bridge position for tight response, long sustain and strong high-end cut, while the 85 takes the neck position for fluid lead tones and fuller clean sounds.

The pair can also be reversed if you want a different balance. Moving the 85 to the bridge brings chunkier lows, while placing the 81 at the neck shifts that position towards a sharper, more cutting lead response. This version uses short-shaft 10 mm controls and a Black finish.

EMG’s Solderless Install System is included with two 25k Volume pots, two 25k Tone pots, battery bus, stereo output jack, two-pickup in/out bus, mounting screws and springs, pickup cables, connect cables, output cable and battery cable.
