Elixir strings were created by GORE Creative Technologies Worldwide, a company who creates and provides technologies to Disney, NASA, construction and telecommunication firms, as well as the agriculture industry. A guitar-playing GORE engineer and development technician realised that the same technology the company used to create GORE-TEX, could effectively coat guitar strings, extending their life by 2-3x. The company spent years testing different variations of the strings, analysing the acoustic spectrum of the guitar, using a room full of scientific equipment, as well as their musical knowledge and experience, to ensure that the guitar's tonal integrity was not compromised.
