Twelve-Voice Analogue Polyphony in a Desktop and Rackmount Format

The Behringer DEEPMIND 12XD brings the 12-voice DEEPMIND analogue engine into a desktop module that can also be rack mounted using the included brackets. Each of its 12 voices provides two oscillators, two LFOs and three ADSR generators, giving you substantial control over layered pads, animated textures, leads, basses and complex modulation without requiring an integrated keyboard.

OSC 1 generates sawtooth and square/pulse waveforms with pulse-width modulation, while OSC 2 provides square/pulse waves with tone modulation. Across all 12 voices that gives you 24 oscillators, with oscillator sync, oscillator drift and parameter drift available for additional movement. Unison and poly modes support detune and pan spread, with up to 12 voices available per note when you want a denser unison sound.

Each voice feeds a selectable 12/24 dB analogue low-pass filter with adjustable resonance and tracking. A global variable 6 dB high-pass filter provides further control over the bottom end, with a bass boost switch available when you want more low-frequency weight. Three four-stage ADSR envelopes per voice control VCF, VCA and modulation duties, with continuously variable curves that move between linear, exponential and reverse-exponential shapes. Envelope trigger modes include Legato, Mono and Retrigger, and envelopes can be triggered by keys, LFOs or the control sequencer and looped into the audio range.

Two LFOs per voice provide seven waveform shapes: Sine, Triangle, Square, Ramp Up, Ramp Down, Sample and Hold, and Sample and Glide. Adjustable slew, modulation delay, key sync, MIDI clock sync, envelope auto-triggering, Delay and Fade In extend their behaviour, while Phase Link can run the polyphonic LFOs together or offset their phase between voices. The eight-channel modulation matrix provides 20 modulation sources and more than 130 destinations, including effects parameters.

The 32-step control sequencer generates values from -127 to 127 and includes adjustable slew, swing and MIDI sync. These sequences can be assigned through the modulation matrix, while the onboard arpeggiator spans up to six octaves and provides 32 preset rhythmic patterns with up to 32 steps and rests, plus user-programmable patterns and multiple playback directions. Chord and PolyChord memories allow complex chords of up to 12 notes to be triggered from a single key, with storage for 36 six-note chords.

Four simultaneous FX engines provide more than 30 TC Electronic, Midas and Klark Teknik algorithms including reverb, chorus, flanger, phaser, delay and multi-band distortion. Effects can be routed and edited from the onboard LCD, while True Bypass removes the digital FX from the signal path when you want to retain the analogue path alone.

DEEPMIND 12XD also supports polyphonic portamento with fixed-rate, fixed-time and exponential glide modes, a global noise generator, and 1024 user program memories with Compare and Match for aligning the physical controls with stored values. The large LCD works with 26 sliders, 33 switches, a rotary encoder and additional controls for direct editing and program management.

Remote control is available through iPad, PC, Mac and selected Android apps over USB, MIDI or built-in WiFi. The integrated configurable WiFi client/access point can connect directly to a home network, while wired connectivity includes servo-balanced stereo TRS outputs, headphones, Sustain, Pedal/CV, MIDI In/Out/Thru and USB MIDI. Comprehensive MIDI implementation includes NRPN/CC control of virtually all parameters plus bulk load/save.
