Twelve-Voice Analogue Polyphony with Deep Modulation, Sequencing and Integrated Effects

The Behringer DEEPMIND 12X is a 49-key true analogue polyphonic synthesizer built around 12 voices, with two oscillators, two LFOs and three ADSR envelopes per voice. OSC 1 produces sawtooth and square/pulse waveforms with PWM, while OSC 2 generates square/pulse waves with tone modulation. With 24 oscillators available across the instrument, plus oscillator sync, detune, pan spread and drift, the 12X can move from clearly separated polyphonic parts to dense unison sounds using up to 12 voices per note.

Each voice feeds a selectable 12/24 dB analogue low-pass filter with adjustable resonance and tracking, while a global variable 6 dB high-pass filter provides further control over the low end. Its +12 dB Boost switch adds extra bass weight when required. Three ADSR generators handle VCF, VCA and modulation duties, with continuously variable envelope curves and Legato, Mono and Retrigger modes. Envelopes can also be triggered from keys, the LFOs or control sequencer and looped into the audio range.

Two LFOs per voice provide seven waveform shapes, adjustable slew, modulation delay, key sync, MIDI sync, Delay and Fade In. Phase Link can align the polyphonic LFOs or offset their phase between voices, while the eight-channel modulation matrix gives you 19 sources and more than 130 destinations, including effects parameters. That lets performance controls such as aftertouch or the mod wheel reach well beyond conventional pitch and filter modulation.

The 32-step control sequencer can generate values from -127 to 127, with adjustable slew, swing and MIDI sync, and its output can be routed through the modulation matrix. The arpeggiator spans up to six octaves and provides 32 preset rhythmic patterns with up to 32 steps and rests, plus user-programmable patterns and multiple playback directions. Chord and PolyChord memory can store complex chords for single-key triggering, with space for 36 six-note chords mapped to specific keys.

Four simultaneous FX engines provide more than 30 TC Electronic, Midas and Klark Teknik algorithms including reverb, chorus, flanger, phaser, delay and multi-band distortion. Effects routing, Mix and Level are adjustable from the FX page, while True Bypass removes the digital effects from the signal path when you want to retain the analogue path alone.

The 49 semi-weighted full-size keys are velocity-sensitive and include aftertouch, with three selectable velocity and aftertouch curves. Polyphonic portamento supports fixed-rate, fixed-time and exponential glide modes, while spring-loaded pitch and assignable modulation wheels provide immediate performance control.

DEEPMIND 12X stores up to 1024 user programs with Compare and Match for aligning the physical controls with stored patch values. Remote editing is available through iPad, PC, Mac and selected Android apps over USB, MIDI or built-in WiFi. The configurable WiFi client/access point can connect directly to a home network without an additional router. Connectivity also includes servo-balanced stereo TRS outputs, headphones, Sustain, Pedal/CV, MIDI In/Out/Thru and USB MIDI, with NRPN/CC parameter control and bulk load/save.
