Tube Preamplification and Fast FET Compression in One 2U Processor
The Behringer 676 combines a vacuum tube microphone/line preamplifier with a FET-style compressor in a 2U rackmount unit. The preamp uses premium 12AX7/ECC83S and 12AT7/6072 tubes with custom-built Midas input and output transformers, giving you a transformer-balanced analogue signal path for recording vocals and instruments.
Input gain, impedance selection, polarity reverse, pad and 48 V phantom power cover the front-end essentials, while a ±10 dB input trim and output level controls let you balance level and drive through the input and output stages. A two-band shelving EQ with switchable filters provides additional tonal shaping before compression.
The FET compressor offers an ultra-fast 20–800 microsecond attack range and adjustable 50–1100 millisecond release, moving from smoother levelling to tighter transient control. A vintage-style meter displays gain reduction or output level. The Join/Split function also lets the preamp and compressor operate together or as completely independent processors.
At Riffs & Licks Music, we think this tube preamp and compressor is ideal for studios wanting one rack unit that can handle front-end tone shaping, gain control and fast FET dynamics while still allowing each section to be used separately.
