Record, Stream and Expand an Acoustic Kit from One Kick-Mounted Unit

The Alesis Kitstream replaces much of the usual drum-recording chain with a single unit mounted directly to your bass drum. Its built-in stereo microphone captures the acoustic sound of the whole kit, so you can record, livestream, practise or make drum content without first setting up multiple microphones, stands, a mixer and separate interface. An automatic calibration wizard adjusts the microphone and trigger settings to suit your playing, while four front-panel controls give quick access to the acoustic signal, triggers, reverb and effects.

USB-C carries both audio and MIDI to a computer or supported mobile device, and Kitstream can also record internally for up to 50 hours, with individual recordings up to 60 minutes. Bluetooth playback and a stereo aux input let you bring in songs, lessons or backing tracks, while dual 6.35 mm (1/4") main outputs and both 6.35 mm (1/4") and 3.5 mm (1/8") headphone connections cover monitoring and playback. A separate 6.35 mm (1/4") dynamic microphone input can add another kick mic, snare mic, overhead or vocal microphone when you need extra coverage.

Kitstream also doubles as the centre of a hybrid acoustic/electronic setup. Its integrated kick trigger can layer the acoustic bass drum with one of 500 onboard drum and percussion sounds, while three 6.35 mm (1/4") TRS trigger inputs support up to six additional pads. There are 50 preset kits, space for 100 internal user kits and import for up to 99 WAV samples at 44.1 kHz/16-bit. Thirteen reverbs, 26 effects, compression and EQ give you onboard control over the finished sound.

At Riffs & Licks Music, we think Kitstream makes the most sense for acoustic drummers who want a much faster route from sitting at the kit to recording, streaming or publishing content, while still leaving plenty of room to expand into hybrid triggering later. Ableton Live Lite, a 90-day Drumeo subscription, protective carrying case, 1.83 m (6') USB-C cable, cable wrap and drum key are included.

Q1 - What can I use the Alesis Kitstream for?

The Alesis Kitstream brings acoustic drum recording, livestreaming, practice, and content creation together in one compact system. You can capture your kit, record performances, and create drum videos without having to set up a collection of microphones, mixers, and separate recording equipment.

Q2 - Do I need multiple microphones to record my drum kit?

No. Kitstream features a built-in stereo microphone that mounts directly to your bass drum and captures the sound of your complete acoustic kit. It's a convenient way to record your playing without positioning individual microphones around every drum and cymbal.

Q3 - Can I record my drums directly to a computer?

Yes. Connect Kitstream to your computer via USB-C and you can record your playing straight into your preferred Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Whether you're putting together drum tracks or recording a performance for a video, there's no need for a separate audio interface.

Q4 - Can I use Kitstream for livestreaming?

Absolutely. Kitstream lets you send your drum audio directly to compatible streaming and recording software, making it easy to share live performances, drum covers, and other content without building a complicated audio setup around your kit.

Q5 - Does the Alesis Kitstream come with recording software?

Yes. Ableton Live Lite is included, so you've got recording and music production software to get started with. You can capture your drum performances, work on recordings, and build tracks using your computer.

Q6 - Can I play along with songs and backing tracks?

Yes. Built-in Bluetooth audio lets you stream music, backing tracks, and drum lessons to Kitstream while you practise. It's handy for learning new songs, working on your timing, or simply playing along with your favourite tracks.

Q7 - Does Kitstream have built-in drum sounds?

Yes. Kitstream comes loaded with 500 drum and percussion sounds, along with onboard effects and the ability to import your own samples. You can bring electronic sounds into your acoustic setup, experiment with different textures, and expand what your kit can do.

Q8 - Can I connect extra drum triggers and pads?

Yes. Kitstream supports additional triggers and electronic percussion pads, so you can expand your acoustic kit with electronic sounds. It's a practical option for adding sampled kicks, snares, percussion, or other sounds to your playing without switching to a fully electronic drum kit.

Q9 - Is Kitstream mainly designed for hybrid drumming?

Not at all. Kitstream is just as useful for recording your acoustic drums, livestreaming, making videos, and practising along with music. The hybrid drumming features are there when you want them, letting you incorporate electronic sounds alongside your acoustic kit without changing how you normally play.

Q10 - How does Kitstream compare to a conventional drum microphone setup?

A conventional drum recording setup typically involves several microphones, stands, cables, and recording equipment to capture the kit. Kitstream takes a more streamlined approach, combining stereo drum capture, USB audio, effects processing, and electronic trigger capabilities in one bass drum-mounted unit. You won't have the same individual microphone control as a full multi-mic setup, but for practice recordings, livestreams, and drum content, there's considerably less equipment to set up and manage.
