Hollow Body Electric Guitars

Archtop guitars are a classic style of guitar originating in the 1920's, and gaining popularity through the 1930's.  They were large body guitars with an arched top (and back), designed to produce a penetrating acoustic sound to keep up with the jazz bands of the time.  As the need to amplify the instruments became apparent, electric versions of these archtops were introduced.  Eventually, hollow body and semi-hollow body electric guitars were introduced as players demanded more versatility and playability.  Models such as the Gibson ES-335 & Epiphone Casino became popular with everyone from BB King & Chuck Berry, to the Beatles.
